Description About Artist

Swampy, an explosive ordnance disposal technician, removes his shirt during routine demolition of Russian ordnance on the outskirts of Kyiv. “Since the invasion and subsequent retreat of Russian forces in Eastern Ukraine, thousands of unexploded ordnances were left behind or hidden in their campaign to destroy the Ukrainian people,” says the photographer Liam Kennedy.

Liam Kennedy is a Nashville based photojournalist who primarily focuses on natural disasters and conflict. He has been photographing for more than 10 years, eight of which while serving in the Navy as a Mass Communication Specialist. While serving, he documented complex stories such as everyday life at sea, special forces and the aftermath of natural disasters such as Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Hurricane Irma in the US Virgin Islands and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Most recently Kennedy documented the war in Ukraine as well as the tornado that ravaged Western Kentucky.
