Mido Cafe - Wing Shya

Known for his signature aesthetic established during his role as an on-set photographer for Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai's films such as Happy Together (1997), In the Mood for Love (2000), Eros (2004) and 2046 (2004).

Mido Cafe is one of Hong Kong's oldest traditional Cha chaan teng (茶餐廳) – cafes that serve Chinese-Western fusion food. This piece is part of the M+ NEONSIGNS.HK project exploring, mapping and documenting Hong Kong’s neon sign.

“We spend our time relaxing behind this sign, playing mahjong in the restaurant after it closes. Our neon sign is our brand. Customers see it and they know how to find us upstairs.”
