A doctor and his ‘gunner’—a medical student, relax inside the hospital near the front lines. “[It was] an entirely volunteer medical group, volunteers signed up to work as evacuation medics, taking those injured on the front lines to the hospitals for further treatment. Smoke breaks, one of their favourite pastimes, broke up the boredom between work,” says the photographer Madeline Kelly.
